Bottom of the Pends

The Pends is the road that runs from St Andrews Harbour up to the Cathedral.

The walls here are probably built using the stone from the ruined cathedral. I doubt very much that they are original medieval city walls, especially since there is now a public toilet in the round tower on the left of this photo. The building on the right with the large cross on it, is the old town mortuary, this is now also a public ladies toilet.

Kinburn Castle

Built as a private residence in 1855 and named after a Crimean battle of the same year, Kinburn Castle became the home of St Andrews Museum in 1991. It is owned and operated by Fife Council

Hope Park Church

The congregation has had a number of different homes since it was formed back in 1738, but the current building, pictured above, was built in 1865. Currently the church is undergoing refurbishment so the congregation have been moved once again, this time to Strathkinness Church for the duration of the rennovations.

Rembering the Fallen

This is the war memorial inside Holy Trinity Church in St Andrews.
It lists those local to St Andrews who where killed in action during the First World War.

You can read the names on it if you view it at its orginal size.

My great uncle is listed on here having lost his life on the battle field in 1917.

Madras College in Spring

Madras College South Street, I took this shot last april when the trees were still covered in blossom.

Madras College, Founded in 1833 by Rev. Dr. Andrew Bell, is a listed building situated in the centre of St Andrews. The school itself is a split site school, this building houses 4th, 5th and 6th year pupils.

The Chapel Organ

St Salvators Chapel, St Andrews, is a excellent example of Late Gothic architecture. Founded in 1450 the chapel has a long history.

Originally founded with a missionary as well as an educational function the chapel is still in use today for sunday services and many a wedding.

This is a shot taken from the front of the chapel looking backwards, it shows the ornate chapel organ which sits up on its own platform above the congregation at the rear of the chapel.

The interestingly named Butts Wynd in St Andrews. Connecting North Street and The Scores. The clock tower is the steeple of St Salvators Chapel.

Inside the Chapel

This shot down the central aisle shows the unusual sideways seating layout, with the Altar being visible at the far end of the chapel.

Hole in the Wall

This is one of the gates in the sandstone walls that surround St Leonards School in St Andrews. Like many old walls in the town it is most likely built using the stone from ruined St Andrews Cathedral.

The “turrets” look to be purely for asthenics rather than function.
